Living off-grid in Thailand, I needed a way to add heat to the house during those cooler evenings (especially up in the hills where it can drop surprisingly low). After seeing tons of reviews online — good and bad—I decided to go for one of those popular 12V Chinese diesel heaters. They looked like incredible value for money compared to the big-name brands that cost way more.

I researched a bunch first and saw all the common complaints: error codes, startup issues, flooding, you name it. But I still went ahead and bought one!
The very first time I tried to fire it up… it failed ignition and threw an E10 error right away. From what I’ve learned (and seen in every Facebook group out there), E10 basically means it didn’t ignite after a couple of attempts—often a catch-all for failed starts.

Turns out, the main culprit was my under-powered battery. I was trying to start it on a weak one, which didn’t give enough power for a proper glow plug heat-up or fuel delivery. That led to flooding it pretty badly because I kept trying too eagerly. They can run like this with too much fuel, far too hot and lead to failure.

Lesson learned the hard way: Always start with a fully charged battery (or better yet, hook it to a decent solar setup or running engine/alternator for that initial boost)!
Mounting it outside

To keep things safe and quiet, I installed the heater outside the house. This ensures constant fresh air intake, no exhaust fumes inside, and cuts down on noise (they’re pretty loud on startup with that fan whine, but settle into a steady hum once running). I wouldn’t recommend mounting inside unless you’ve got killer ventilation and CO monitoring—better safe than sorry. I also wouldn’t keep hammering the start button if it’s throwing errors like E10. Give it time to reset (pull the fuse for a minute), check connections, bleed air from the lines, and prime properly.
“There are tons of Facebook groups dedicated to this exact issue (I joined a few myself after it happened to me). Honestly, it was completely my fault the first time—it wouldn’t start and I kept trying. I was just too excited to get it running and ended up flooding it pretty badly. It took a lot of cranking and persuasion before it finally fired up!”
Lesson learned!
I wouldn’t recommend keep trying to start it at this poi
