How to Fix Chinese Diesel Heater Error E10 (Vevor, Sunster & All Models)
If your Chinese diesel heater is flashing an E10 error code, the unit has tried to ignite and timed out before establishing a proper flame, that is all.
When you turn the heater on, it runs a self-check: the fan turns on, the glow plug heats up, and the fuel pump starts pulsing. If the sensor doesn’t detect heat in the combustion chamber within a set window of time (2 attempts), it shuts down to prevent raw diesel from flooding the burner and throws the E10 code.
Atomizing Mesh Screen (more on this below) and why it is important!
The Main Reasons Your Diesel Heater Gives an E10 Error
Before pulling the heater apart, check these three common things first.
Low Battery Voltage (The #1 Cause): When the glow plug kicks in, it draws significant current (up to 10–12 Amps). If your 12V battery dips below the threshold when first starting, the glow plug won’t get hot enough to ignite the diesel—even if your controller says your battery is full. This leads to starting problems next time.
Fuel Delivery Issues: Air bubbles in the fuel line, a clogged fuel filter, or a pump that has lost prime will leave the combustion chamber dry causing one of two attempts to start and fail.It only gives 2 attempts and then shows the E10 error code.
We get asked all the time if these heaters can run on vegetable oil or other alternative fuels. While technically possible with extensive modifications (heating the fuel, filtering it meticulously), raw, unfiltered vegetable oil is the quickest way to permanently destroy your atomizing screen.
Why Veggie Oil Clogs Screens Instantly:
Viscosity: Vegetable oil is much thicker than diesel. It cannot flow correctly through the tight gaps of that precision mesh screen, clogging it up
Flash Point: Vegetable oil requires much higher temperatures to vaporize cleanly. If your heater is in a startup cycle or running on low power, the veggie oil turns into a thick, tar-like carbon that is nearly impossible to clean out.
Why Rich Burns and Heavy Soot Choke the Screen
Soot or Carbon Buildup: A clogged glow plug screen or dirty atomizing mesh stops the fuel from vaporizing cleanly. They are probably the most underlooked part.
This is the bottleneck. If this fine stainless steel mesh gets caked in hard carbon, atomization stops completely—and no amount of resetting will get that heater to fire.
Step-by-Step E10 Troubleshooting Guide
Step 1: Check Voltage Under Load
Do not just look at the static voltage reading.
Turn the heater on and watch the voltage display right as the fuel pump begins to click.
If it drops below 11.5V, your wiring might be too thin (causing voltage drop), or your battery needs charging. Run heavy 10AWG (6mm²) wire directly from your battery to the heater harness.
Step 2: Inspect the Fuel Line for Air Bubbles
Look at the fuel line coming from your tank. Are there visible air bubbles moving toward the pump?
Fix: Tighten all rubber hose joins and hose clamps. Even a pinhole leak on the vacuum side of the pump will suck in air instead of diesel.
Step 3: Verify the Fuel Pump Operation
Put your hand on the fuel pump. You should feel a distinct ticking pulse.
If it’s silent or buzzing without pumping, check the wiring plug on the pump for corrosion or low voltage.
Step 4: Inspect and Clean the Glow Plug & Screen
If the pump is pulsing and voltage is solid, remove the glow plug using a keyway socket…
Check for heavy black carbon buildup on the glow plug pin and the small wire mesh screen inside the port.
Clean or replace the mesh screen—a blocked screen prevents air and diesel from mixing correctly.
Quick Summary & Next Steps
If your heater throws an E10 code: Voltage first ➔ Fuel line air check second ➔ Glow plug screen third.
